The John Patitucci Brazilian Trio features John Patitucci on acoustic and electric bass, Yotam Silberstein on acoustic and electric guitar, and Rogerio Boccato on drums and percussion. Patitucci formed his latest Brazilian Trio in 2017 to record Irmdos de Fe for the high end subscription only vinyl record label Newvelle Records. The album was later released on Patitucci’s own label, Three Faces Records.
The trio delights in performing pieces by the giants and poets of the Brazilian repertoire – Buarque, Nascimento, Jobim, Gismonti, Garoto and Dominguinhos. The three not only love the music of Brazil, but are true students of the music. Lyrics, intentions, personalities, instrumentations, and histories were all discussed in rehearsals, just as much as chord changes, tempos and inflections.
John Patitucci has released 16 recordings of his own as band leader and is well known for his longtime membership in the Wayne Shorter Quartet, the Chick Corea Elektric Akoustic Bands, as well as performing and recording with other jazz greats such as Herbie Hancock, Dizzy Gillespie, McCoy Tyner, Freddie Hubbard, Michael Brecker and many others. He has recorded on hundreds of recordings, film and television soundtracks and performed with many leading jazz, classical and pop artists of the world.
As a young musician in Tel Aviv, Yotam Silberstein was quickly recognized as a prodigy and was invited to perform with many of the nation’s top musicians. He was a finalist in the 2005 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Guitar Competition and at 21, performed at Italy’s renowned Umbria Jazz Festival, released a critically acclaimed debut album and set out on an extensive tour of Europe. Yotam has earned his place among the jazz elite by collaborating with such luminaries as James Moody, The Heath Brothers, Roy Hargrove, George Coleman, David Sanborn, Marcus Miller, Paquito D’Rivera, Christian McBride and many others. Yotam has a profound passion for Brazilian music and his repertoire in this style is vast, with hundreds of pieces committed to memory.
Brazilian percussionist and educator Rogerio Boccato plays recorded in projects led by some of today’s leading jazz artists, among them Maria Schneider, Fred Hersch, Brian Blade, Kurt Elling, Danilo Perez, Renee Rosnes, and many others. He has also collaborated with top-ranking Brazilian artists, such as Toninho Horta, Moacir Santos, Ze Renato and Vinicius Cantuaria.
