Jazz & Blues Showcase: The Nick Hempton Quartet

The Nick Hempton Quartet
The Jazz & Blues Showcase series returns on Sunday, September 13th with more great live jazz for its South Jersey fans. Headlining our fall opener is NICK HEMPTON, the swinging, soulful blues saxophone sensation. Noted jazzmen providing quartet support for him are guitarist CHARLIE SIGLER, organist LUCAS BROWN & drummer BYRON LANDHAM.
Growing up in Australia, Hempton idolized saxophone icons Dexter Gordon, Gene Ammons & Sonny Stitt. They became the driving force in his desire for a career in jazz & an opportunity to continue the music of those jazz legends. Believing the best way to achieve that was to relocate to New York City’s “hotbed” of jazz in the U.S., he did so while still in his twenties in 2004.
He worked in N.Y. to establish himself as a fixture in its jazz scene. The superb professional credits he’s since earned justified that move. He gained popularity by performing with such jazz stalwarts as Roy Hargrove, Victor Lewis, Larry Willis, Peter Bernstein, Akiko Tsuruga, Joe Magnarelli, Jerry Weldon & Cory Weeds. As his popularity grew, demand for his playing also did & opportunities at important jazz venues across the U.S., Canada, Europe & Asia opened for him. These continue today as he adds to a distinguished three-decade resume of performing & recording.
