Luis Ozoria, an award-winning trumpeter, composer, and educator hailing from Baltimore, MD, embodies a multifaceted approach to music that seamlessly blends innovation, tradition, and education.

Originally from South Jersey, Luis’s musical journey began in Galloway and flourished through his studies at Rowan University. Under the tutelage of esteemed educators such as Dr. Bryan Appleby-Wineberg, Denis DiBlasio, George Rabbai, and Jonathan Barnes, Luis honed his craft, earning recognition with the prestigious Ann B. Ward Creative Achievement in Fine and Performing Arts medallion upon his graduation in 2021. His quest for musical excellence led him to the Peabody Institute, where he made history as the first recipient of a Master of Music in jazz studies under the mentorship of Sean Jones.

Luis’s musical prowess extends across the Eastern Shore, where he seamlessly navigates diverse styles and genres. From 2021 to 2023, he served as the horn arranger for Cheers the Band, infusing their performances with original arrangements that elevated their renditions of timeless classics and contemporary hits. His talents graced esteemed venues such as the Delaware Museum of Art, Hard Rock Casino AC, Xfinity Live Sports Bar Philadelphia, and Golden Nugget Casino AC.

In addition to his contributions to popular music, Luis co-founded the Cortina Brass Quintet, a Baltimore-based ensemble dedicated to sharing American music with international audiences while fostering cultural exchange through collaborations with artists from around the globe. He also lends his expertise as the music coordinator for the Fran Vielma Jazz Orchestra, championing the works of contemporary Pan-American artists and nurturing a vibrant musical community in the DMV.

Luis’s latest endeavor, the Candor Quintet, serves as a platform for his original compositions, exploring themes that reflect his personal experiences and philosophical outlook on life. With a commitment to authenticity and introspection, the Candor Quintet delves deep into the essence of music, forging connections that resonate with audiences on a profound level.

Beyond his artistic pursuits, Luis is deeply passionate about education, sharing his knowledge and insight with aspiring musicians of all ages. As a staff member of the Peabody Institute and faculty of the preparatory division, he imparts valuable lessons gleaned from his own journey. He has also contributed his expertise to the Central Pennsylvania Jazz Camp, and facilitated workshops at the Rowan University Summer Jazz Camp. Through his work as an educator and mentor, Luis seeks to inspire the next generation of artistic visionaries, guiding them on a path of creativity, expression, and personal growth.
