Our Jazz & Blues Showcase returns this fall on Sunday, September 10with the soulful, blues playing of saxophone sensation NICK HEMPTON. Organist KYLE KOEHLER & drummer BYRON LANDHAM complete his trio of well-known jazz artists.
Nick Hempton was influenced by saxophone legends Dexter Gordon, Gene Ammons & Sonny Stitt while growing up in Australia. They became the driving force in his desire for a career in jazz & the opportunity to continue the music of those iconic saxophonists. He felt the best way to achieve this was to relocate in his 20s to New York in 2004, the heart of jazz in the U.S.
The superb, two-decade professional resume Hempton’s earned since then proved his decision was right. He worked to establish himself as a popular fixture in New York’s jazz scene by performing with jazz stalwarts Roy Hargrove, Victor Lewis, Larry Willis, Peter Bernstein, Joe Magnarelli & Jerry Weldon, among others.
As Hempton’s popularity grew, demand for his playing also did & performance opportunities at important jazz venues in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia & Asia opened for him. Along with continuing to perform worldwide, he also frequently records.
