Don Collins Quintet

Michael Pedicin, in collaboration with the South Jersey Jazz Society, presents “Jazz with Philly Roots.” Michael has created a wonderful series of presenting his friends, most of whom are musicians and university educators, who have grown up in the city of Philadelphia and established themselves as important figures on the current jazz scene there, as well as some national and international prominence. All concerts will be held at 2:00pm in the Chris Maloney Lecture Hall in the Ocean City Free Public Library. Concerts are FREE and open to the public. No tickets required! 

Don Collins Quintet

Don Collins is a trombonist based out of Philadelphia, PA. He was the winner of the 2014 Philadelphia Clef Club Jazz Award. He began his musical studies at age 7 on piano, and took up euphonium, then subsequently the trombone, at age 9. His teachers have included euphonium soloist Brian Bowman, trombonist Steve Turre, and Philadelphia Orchestra principal trombonist Glenn Dodson. Don Collins has had the privilege of accompanying a host of diverse artists including Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Johnny Mathis, The Temptations, The Trampps, Gerald Alston, Ernie Watts, Russell Tompkins Jr., Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes, Michael Stuart, James Moody, Stanley Clarke, Jimmy Heath, Joey Defrancesco, The Dells, The O’Jays, and many others.
