DESCRIPTION:Tom Angello’s All-Star\nThree Part Jazz Series\nNew York State of Mind\nRising Jazz Stars From The Big Apple\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Jacob Chung\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Jazz saxophonist Jacob Chung moved from Toronto to New York City in 2022 and has since maintained an active performance schedule at The Django\, Ornithology\, Smalls\, Mezzrow\, Dizzy’s Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center\, Brvsh Cvl7r3\, and other NYC clubs. Jacob plays in Rodney Green’s Jackson Miller Trio\, the Chris Byars Octet\, the Richard Cortez Band\, and is a regular member of Erena Terakubo’s Sextet. He has also shared the stage with Ken Peplowski\, the John Pizzarelli Big Band\, Peter Washington\, the Mingus Big Band\, Pasquale Grasso\, Ari Roland\, and Joe Farnsworth. Jacob has performed twice at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington D.C.\, first in 2023 with the prestigious Betty Carter Jazz Ahead program and most recently with vibraphonist Chuck Redd in 2024. Jacob’s sophomore album The Sage (2024)\, which features Vincent Herring and drummer Joe Farnsworth\, was named one of the best Canadian jazz releases of 2024 (Peter Hum\, Ottawa Citizen).  \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Caleb Tobocman\nCaleb Tobocman is one of New York’s most in-demand rising bass stars. Having grown up in a musical family (in the legendary artist building Manhattan Plaza)\, Caleb picked up the upright bass at the age of 16 and it was apparent he was a natural. In a few short years\, he has already shared the bandstand with jazz greats such as Vincent Herring\, George Coleman\, Nicholas Payton\, David Hazeltine\, Eric Alexander\, Veronica Swift\, Grant Stewart\, Jeff “Tain” Watts\, Emmet Cohen\, Pasquale Grasso\, and Benny Bennack III\, among others. Caleb studied at Manhattan School of Music under legends Ron Carter and Buster Williams. \n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Jason Long\nJason Long is a Philadelphia native and a 32 year professional musician\, arranger and music educator in the Philadelphia/New York/Washington DC area. In 1997\, he received a B.A. Degree in Music Performance from the University of the Arts\, Philadelphia PA. Jason has performed and recorded with numerous local and national acts during the past 30 years as both a pianist and a bassist\, including Bobby Caldwell\, Wayne Newton\, Janis Siegel\, Arturo Sandoval\, Debbie Gibson\, Brian Bromberg\, Will Lee and Andrew Neu\, among many others. Since twelve years of age\, Jason has performed over 8\,000 professional musical performances in both public and private venues. Jason is among the most working and in demand musicians in the Philadelphia area. A quartet with some of today’s best known Philly jazz artists is featured. Led by renowned vibes player TONY MICELI\, it includes guitarist/pianist ELIJAH COLE\, bassist MADISON RAST & drummer DAN MONAGHAN. \nVibes master Miceli learned several instruments while growing up in New Jersey. However\, during his college years at Philly’s University of the Arts\, his attraction to the vibes grew & his dedication to it became permanent. Calling Philly home since 1982’s graduation\, Miceli’s since become a highly important & prolific voice in jazz circles on the vibraphone. \nAs a performer\, he’s worked with Peter Bernstein\, Dave Liebman\, Joe Magnarelli\, Larry McKenna\, Steve Slagle & Dave Stryker\, among others. Jacob plays in Rodney Green’s Jackson Miller Trio\, the Chris Byars Octet\, the Richard Cortez Band\, and is a regular member of Erena Terakubo’s Sextet. SUMMARY:Jazz & Blues Showcase: The Nick Hempton Quartet
DESCRIPTION:The Nick Hempton Quartet\nOur Jazz & Blues Showcase returns this fall with an exciting show on Sunday afternoon\, SEPTEMBER 7th\, featuring the soulful\, blues playing of saxophone sensation NICK HEMPTON. Support in his quartet is from well-known\, veteran jazz artists MATT CHERTKOFF\, guitar\, LUCAS BROWN\, organ\, & drummer JASON TIEMANN. \nGrowing up in Australia\, Hempton was influenced by saxophone icons Dexter Gordon\, Gene Ammons & Sonny Stitt. They became the driving force in his desire for a career in jazz & an opportunity to continue the music of those jazz legends. His belief was that the best way to achieve that goal was to move to New York\, the U.S. ‘s hotbed of jazz. Still in his twenties\, he relocated in 2004. \nIn N.Y.\, he worked to establish himself as a fixture in its jazz scene. The superb professional resume he’s earned since\, justified the decision to move. Among others\, he gained popularity performing with jazz stalwarts Roy Hargrove\, Victor Lewis\, Larry Willis\, Peter Bernstein\, Joe Magnarelli & Jerry Weldon. As his popularity grew\, demand for his playing also did & opportunities at important jazz venues in the U.S.\, Canada\, Europe\, Asia & back in Australia opened for him. They continue today\, as Hempton’s growing resume shows continued performances worldwide & more of his recorded work.

At 19\, he heard Toots Thielemans play harmonica\, which totally changed his musical life. His career has taken him from Brazil to Germany\, then throughout the European continent where he became a pivotal force on the studio and jazz scene\, performing\, composing\, recording\, and touring extensively with his own ensembles as well as with visiting legends Harry Sweets Edison and Buddy Tate. In 1989\, he returned to Brazil to record his first album as a leader\, “Samba Importado”. In 1992\, a trip to California led to his signing with the Concord label\, and the resulting six recordings established him as the first major new voice on the harmonica since Toots Thielemans and as a vibes player in the mainstream tradition. He moved to New York in 1992 where he has lived ever since. His 30 CDs have received rave reviews and strong airplay\, and established his immediately recognizable style of Brazilian Jazz. In 2014 he won the Brazilian International Press Award. Critics and the jazz listening public alike have recognized Meurkens’ incredible talent\, listing him repeatedly in the Downbeat and Jazziz Polls. Meurkens has recorded and performed with Ray Brown\, Paquito D’Rivera\, Oscar Castro-Neves\, Herb Ellis\, Herbie Mann\, James Moody\, Charlie Byrd\, Jimmy Cobb\, Ivan Lins\, Monty Alexander\, Manfredo Fest\, Herb Ellis\, Dori Caymmi\, Toninho Horta\, Harry ‘Sweets’ Edison\, Buddy Tate\, Joyce\, Astrud Gilberto\, Roberto Menescal\, Antonio Adolfo\, Emilio Santiago\, and many others.  \nJoe Fitzgerald\nBassist Joe Fitzgerald is an ac2ve member of the New York music community with more than three decades of experience including recordings and performances in most of the major concert halls and jazz fes2vals throughout the world. Joe has performed with many luminaries from the jazz world including Lee Konitz\, Frank Kimbrough\, Frank Wess\, Alan Dawson\, Bruce Barth\, Donald Brown\, Datevik Hovanesian\, Pat Metheny\, Hendrik Meurkens\, John Bunch and many others. Joe has also has a long career as an educator and is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music.  \nMisha Tsiganov \nBorn in St. Petersburg\, Russia\, Misha Tsiganov began to play piano at the age of six and graduated from Mussorgsky College of Music. In 1990 Misha received prize-winner-diploma of the All-Russia Jazz Competition. He moved to the USA in 1991\, to study at the Berklee College of Music. Misha is the featured pianist on the Bill Cosby television cartoon Little Bill\, where Misha worked 1999-2002. Also with Hampton\, he recorded the Grammy-nominated Sentimental Journey (Atlantic). O’Leary has recorded with J.R. Monterose\, Mundell Lowe\, Mel Lewis\, Bucky Pizzarelli\, Jerry Bergozi\, and Scott Robinson. His featured special guest is JOHN SWANA\, the superb Philadelphia trumpeter\, valve trombonist & EVI specialist. \nFor more than four decades\, Syracuse native JOE MAGNARELLI continues to delight worldwide jazz audiences with his playing. His distinguished resume includes substantial recorded work as a leader & sideman\, and performances with a host of jazz elites. Among them are Rosemary Clooney\, Lionnel Hampton\, Buddy Rich\, Ray Barretto\, John Pizzarelli & Harry Connick\, Jr. His trumpet artistry has also earned him honors from the Thelonious Monk International Trumpet Competition & from Downbeat Magazine\, with the latter also naming him “one of the top five\, over 30 post bebop trumpet players today.”
