His all star ensemble features special guest\, tenor sax giant JERRY WELDON. PAT BIANCHI\, the late\, great guitarist Pat Martino’s organist of choice\, & popular\, in-demand drummer BYRON LANDHAMcomplete the group. \nFor more than three-decades\, Syracuse native MAGNARELLI continues to delight audiences worldwide in performance. Along with his recorded work\, his resume also includes many jazz elites with whom he’s performed. Rosemary Clooney\, Lionel Hampton\, Buddy Rich\, Ray Barretto\, John Pizzarelli & Harry Connick \, Jr. are among them. His artistry has also earned him rewards from the Thelonious Monk International Trumpet competition & from Downbeat Magazine\, naming him “one of the top five\, over 30 post bebop trumpet players today.” \nSpecial guest\, tenor sax giant Jerry Weldon’s stellar four-decade career includes important work with piano greats George Cables and Cedar Walton\, and organ giants Jimmy McGriff\, Jack McDuff\, Joey DeFrancesco & Dr. Lonnie Smith. A charter member & stalwart in the band of Harry Connick\, Jr.\, Weldon also performed with jazz greats Mel Torme\, Lionel Hampton\, George Benson & Roy Haynes\, among others.

Featured is renowned pianist STEVE ASH\, with veteran rhythm section support from  bassist HARVIE S & drummer ALVESTER GARNETT. \nPittsburgh native\, New York based Steve Ash is a highly sought after ensemble leader & celebrated sideman. His distinguished four-decade resume contains performances across the U.S. & abroad with many important jazz artists. Jimmy Cobb\, Louis Hayes\, Frank Wess\, Jon Hendricks\, Harry Allen\, Joe Magnarelli\, Chris Connor & Annie Ross are among them. \nOther credits for Mr. Ash include being chosen by the Kennedy Center & the U.S. State Department in 2004 to tour overseas as a Jazz Ambassador. His lengthy resume also contains recorded work as a leader & sideman\, & the distinction of playing piano in a Claire Danes\, 2007 Hollywood film.

Organist KYLE KOEHLER & drummer BYRON LANDHAM complete his trio of well-known jazz artists. \nNick Hempton was influenced by saxophone legends Dexter Gordon\, Gene Ammons & Sonny Stitt while growing up in Australia. They became the driving force in his desire for a career in jazz & the opportunity to continue the music of those iconic saxophonists. He felt the best way to achieve this was to relocate in his 20s to New York in 2004\, the heart of jazz in the U.S. \nThe superb\, two-decade professional resume Hempton’s earned since then proved his decision was right. He worked to establish himself as a popular fixture in New York’s jazz scene by performing with jazz stalwarts Roy Hargrove\, Victor Lewis\, Larry Willis\, Peter Bernstein\, Joe Magnarelli & Jerry Weldon\, among others. \nAs Hempton’s popularity grew\, demand for his playing also did & performance opportunities at important jazz venues in the U.S.\, Canada\, Europe\, Australia & Asia opened for him. DESCRIPTION:Our closing program on Sunday\, June 11th\, features the outstanding jazz pianist LARRY FULLER. His classic piano trio includes premier bassist MATTHEW PARRISH\, and in-demand drummer JASON TIEMANN. \nOhio native\, world renowned jazz pianist LARRY FULLER started playing jazz as a teenager in the 1970s.  A significant boost as a professional occurred a decade later when he moved to Seattle to work with Ernestine Anderson\, the legendary jazz/blues singer.  Important career associations followed with the noted jazz drummer Jeff Hamilton in the mid-1990s\, and soon thereafter until 2003 as part of the renowned bassist Ray Brown’s last trio. Substantial work followed in the 2000’s with well-known guitarist & vocalist John Pizzarelli.  Fuller continues to delight audiences worldwide in performance and to record. His distinguished resume includes performing with a host of other jazz giants.  Phil Woods\, Stanley Turrentine\, Clark Terry\, Benny Golson\, Herb Ellis\, Emily Remler and Regina Carter are among them.

DESCRIPTION:Our third spring show on Sunday\, May 21st features an all-star quartet led by internationally renowned trumpeter JOE MAGNARELLI.  Award-winning baritone saxophonist FRANK BASILE adds a second horn to his ensemble\, while jazz organ giant PAT BIANCHI\, the late guitar legend Pat Martino’s organist of choice\, and standout drummer BYRON LANDHAM complete the group. \nSyracuse native Magnarelli’s artistry has delighted audiences across the U.S. and abroad for more than three decades.  He’s received awards from the Thelonious Monk International Trumpet Competition and from Downbeat magazine\, with Downbeat also naming him as “one of the top five\, over 30 post bebop trumpet players today.”  He’s performed with a host of jazz elites in his career.  Among them are Rosemary Clooney\, Lionel Hampton\, Buddy Rich\, Ray Barretto\, John Pizzarelli and Harry Connick\, Jr. He also continues to record frequently. His 2022 “New York Osaka Junction” is his latest CD.

SUMMARY:Celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month with Bob Perkins
DESCRIPTION:On April 5th the South Jersey Jazz Society in honor of Jazz Appreciation Month will host a member’s only event at Gregory’s Restaurant in Somers Point. Starting at 6:30 p.m. this event will feature WRTI’s Bob Perkins. Bob and iconic figure on the Philadelphia jazz scene has been heard for nearly half a century on WRTI. His distinctive voice has been a hallmark of jazz radio throughout the tristate region. Bob will highlight the numerous jazz artists that he has interacted with over the years. \nPrior to Bob’s presentation music will be provided by the Budesa Brothers and complimentary butlered appetizers will be served. \n  \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Due to the limited space available at Gregory’s for the Members Only Event on April 5th the South Jersey Jazz Society is requiring those wishing to attend to register by sending an email to info@southjerseyjazz.org. \nRegistration will be taken on a first come basis.  You will receive a confirmation email in return to confirm your registration. We will develop a waiting list for those individuals registering after we have reached capacity. We offer our apologies in advance to any of our members not able to attend. \nIf you are interested in becoming a member or for more informationcall 609-289-0326 or email us at info@southjerseyjazz.org.
