“Young Lions of Jazz” Featuring Maya Belardo
March 22 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
The South Jersey Jazz Society is pleased to announce the third event of our “Young Lions of Jazz” series.
This series will feature young jazz musicians from South Jersey presenting an entertaining and enlightening performance and interview. We will learn how these young artists became interested and involved in jazz, and what their hopes and dreams are going forward.
On Sunday, March 22nd, 2020, we’re presenting “The Princess of Jazz”, Maya Balardo in our popular performance/interview format.
Maya Belardo, is a young jazz artist on the rise! Born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Wilmington, DE she spent most of her years studying vocal performance and singing around Delaware. At 17 she was booked to be the opening headliner at the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival. It is one of the largest attended free jazz festivals in the country. She has been honored to share the stage or open for many accomplished artists such as Gerald Veasley, Alex Bugnon, Kandace Springs, etc. In December 2019, Maya released her first self written and produced single entitled, “Free”. Maya’s mission is to return jazz to its prominence as the most popular music. She loves teaching scatting lessons and introducing jazz to young children. She does this through various charitable organizations and hopes to start her own non profit one day!
This is a free event. Gregory’s delicious lunch and drink menu will be available.
We ask you to please give a generous free will donation so we may continue to present jazz music to our South Jersey community.
