A N’Orleans style jazz band, effectively melds the traditional second line street music of New Orleans with the infectious beats of Cajun, Funk and Zydeco music. From funerals to clubs to concert halls, the band plays with an authenticity and energy that will move you body and soul. The driving force of the group is Jimmy “Rocknsouza” Parker on, of course, sousaphone. Jimmy’s rapid-fire articulation, five octave range, multi-phonics and imaginative bass lines give the ensemble a signature sound. Scott Yanow, contributor to major jazz publications describes Jimmy’s performance as “virtuosic”. Dan Bilawsky of All About Jazz talks about Jimmy’s performance personality as “supportive yet puckish-to-pugnacious”. Parker’s powerful presence combined with a driving rhythm section and dynamic horn line transport you to the streets of New Orleans in the midst of Mardi Gras.
Rocknsouza’s repertoire from hard bop trumpeter Lee Morgan to the soul funk of the Neville Brothers generates a wide appeal that is further enhanced by the addition of vocalist Jeannie Brooks. Ms. Brooks is recognized as one of the most talented jazz vocalists in the area with performances throughout the East Coast in and Europe. Band musicians include Stan Slotter on trumpet, Richard Orr on saxophone, Larry Toft on trombone, Greg Wright on guitar, and Lou Liebman on drums.
