The Somers Point Jazz Society proudly present their annual November concert on November 20, 2013 at Clancy’s by the Bay located at Maryland and Sunny Ave. in Somers Point from 7:30 until 9:00 p.m. This year’s concert will feature Denis DiBlasio and the Rowan University Lab Band. Admission is $5 for Somers Point Jazz Society Members and $10 for Non-Members.
Baritone saxophone and flute artist Denis DiBlasio directs the jazz program at Rowan University in New Jersey. He is also the Executive Director of The Maynard Ferguson Institute of Jazz at Rowan. With nine recordings of his own along with published texts, arrangements, and compositions, DiBlasio is known throughout the world.
After five years as Music Director with Maynard Ferguson along with touring on his own, DiBlasio continues to travel around the world performing and teaching. His approach of keeping things simple, informative and positive keeps his schedule extremely busy, booking dates sometimes three years in advance. His inspirational connection with young musicians is what makes DiBlasio so special.
The Rowan University Lab Band is an exciting one-of-a-kind ensemble consisting of a different instrumentation each year. The Lab Band has used saxophones, violins, bassoon, trumpets, tubas, multiple guitars, trombones, bass, drums, harp, contrabassoon, three person vocal choir, french horn, flutes, keyboard, multiple lutes and more. All of the Lab Band’s music is written specifically for the group by faculty and students.
This program is made possible in part through the New Jersey State Council of the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts through the Local Arts Grant administered by Atlantic County Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs, and Shore Medical Center .
