One of the greatest drummers of our times, Ignacio Berroa was included in the 2011 Mp3 compilation entitled “Jazz Drumming Legends” which features some of the most renowned drummers in Jazz history.
Born in Havana, Cuba, in 1953.Ignacio originally studied violin.
His passion for Jazz began after hearing Nat King Cole trio and The Gleen Miller orchestra with Gene Krupa on drums.
He started drum lessons in1964 and by 1975 Ignacio had become Cuba’s most sought after drummer.
In 1980 he left his country during the Mariel boatlift and settled in New York City,
In 1982, Dizzy Gillespie invited Ignacio to join his quartet. Ignacio was also the drummer in all the important bands Gillespie assembled until his death in 1993.
Ignacio has also performed and recorded with Jazz Legends, such as: McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, Freddie Hubbard, Clark Terry, Jackie McLean, Charlie Haden, Gonzalo Rubalcaba and Tito Puente, to name a few.
